Skylum is joined by 500px founder Evgeny Tchebotarev as VP of Growth in Asia

Skylum’s newest team member positions the award-winning software company for expansive growth in the Asian market, with a focus on partnerships, distribution, and building a local photo community around Skylum’s software lineup.

July 3, 2018 — Bellevue, WA Skylum Software, creator of the award-winning Luminar and Aurora HDR photo software, is excited to bring on Evgeny Tchebotarev, founder of 500px, as VP of Growth in Asia.

“I have always been inspired by what Evgeny has done for the community. He has created the most innovative and user-friendly social platform for photographers. I believe that as a part of the Skylum team, Evgeny can do even more for creators around the globe. We have revolutionary plans, and it’s an honor to have such team players on board,” says Alex Tsepko, CEO of Skylum.

Originally from Moscow, Tchebotarev founded 500px in 2004 as a community for photographers to share their work and experiences online. Over the next 14 years, the 500px community grew to more than 13 million photographers before it was acquired by Visual China Group (VCG) in 2018. Since Tchebotarev’s departure from 500px, he’s spent most of his time in Asia, working with companies to build and market their products.

With his knowledge and insights gained from his 14 years at the helm of 500px — as well as his time as a product management consultant in the Asia-Pacific market — Tchebotarev will be responsible for establishing Skylum’s presence and fostering partnerships in the Asia region to further build a strong photography community in an effort to bring innovative photo-editing applications to more people.

Already, Skylum software is used by hundreds of thousands of photographers across Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and beyond, with new photographers joining every day — but there’s still progress to be made.

Evgeny will take his knowledge of photography, product development, and the Asia-Pacific market to expand Skylum’s presence, both online and on the street, by organizing events including photo walks, community meetups, and contests across the region. Skylum’s award-winning tools are known and loved by hundreds of thousands of photographers around the world and Tchebotarev is committed to champion photographers’ needs in this fast-moving market.

“What’s important to me, is Skylum’s complete dedication to building great software, and providing exceptional value to photographers, all while building a real community of passionate photographers. This strongly resonates with my personal and professional ambitions and being able to do so in a highly competitive, fast paced, and unique market, such as Asia, is an additional challenge that I’m excited to take head on” — Evgeny Tchebotarev.
